This project included a 600 square foot AZEK deck with aluminum railing. Instead of upgrades such as hidden fasteners, vinyl post wrap, or diagonal decking, the customer chose to add a roof over one portion of the deck. While the roof adds aesthetic value, it also makes the deck much more usable by providing protection from the sun and rain.
This owner originally had a 10x10 wood deck off of their townhouse (see the bottom picture for the "before"). Stump's Quality Decks expanded the deck to a 10x20 low-maintenance Azek deck, doubling the deck space. They also added an underdeck system that made the area below the deck usable during the rain. The deck was built with AZEK decking (Morado color), white vinyl railing, and low-voltage lighting.
The lighting includes three types of lighting--post cap lighting, post accent lighting (mounted on the side of the post), and lighting for the underdeck area.
The main area of the decking on this project is fastened with tongue and groove hidden fastening system, laid out in a herringbone pattern. The railing is white vinyl with black aluminum balusters. The thinner black aluminum balusters increase visibility and reduce the glare that's normally caused by white balusters.
Other options on this deck include waterfall steps at one end and accent lighting in the step risers.
